44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Sermon: Jeremiah 1:4-10
The Call of Jeremiah
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” 6 Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.” 7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.” 9 Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”

Intercessory Prayer and Lord's Prayer
God, you call us.
To be your prophets, your servants, your witnesses in the world. You call us to bring love, peace, justice and hope to a world that is in great need of it.
Help us to listen to your call. Help us to hear your small still voice – wherever and whenever you may be speaking to us. Be it through the words of Scripture, or the words of the preacher. Be it through our family or friends. Be it through strangers. Be it through the inner promptings of the Holy Spirit. Be it on a Sunday morning in church or at any time or place – at home, at work, while doing chores or spending time with friends. Open us up to your Word, God. Open the ears of our spirit and the eyes of our heart. And make us willing to follow your call.
Let us listen to your call to be people of mercy and kindness where we see cruelty.
Let us listen to your call to be people of justice where we see injustice.
Let us listen to your call to be people of peace where we see enmity.
Let us listen to your call to be people of hope where we see despair.
Let us listen to your call to be people of joy in a world filled with sorrow.
In you we find our strength and our purpose. For this we thank and praise you!
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the Kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
Benediction
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.
