Lesung / Gospel Reading: John 3:14-21
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
Johannes 3,14-21
Mose richtete in der Wüste den Pfahl mit der bronzenen Schlange auf. Genauso muss auch der Menschensohn erhöht werden, damit alle, die sich im Glauben ihm zuwenden, durch ihn ewiges Leben bekommen. Gott hat die Menschen so sehr geliebt, dass er seinen einzigen Sohn hergab. Nun werden alle, die sich auf den Sohn Gottes verlassen, nicht zugrunde gehen, sondern ewig leben. Gott sandte den Sohn nicht in die Welt, um die Menschen zu verurteilen, sondern um sie zu retten. Wer sich an den Sohn Gottes hält, wird nicht verurteilt. Wer sich aber nicht an ihn hält, ist schon verurteilt, weil er Gottes einzigen Sohn nicht angenommen hat.
So geschieht die Verurteilung: Das Licht ist in die Welt gekommen, aber die Menschen liebten die Dunkelheit mehr als das Licht; denn ihre Taten waren schlecht. Jeder, der Böses tut, hasst das Licht und bleibt im Dunkeln, damit seine schlechten Taten nicht offenbar werden. Aber wer der Wahrheit gehorcht, kommt zum Licht; denn das Licht macht offenbar, dass er mit seinen Taten Gott gehorsam war.

The Song of the Vineyard
I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit.
Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad? Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it.
The vineyard of the Lord Almighty is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.

Gottes Volk – ein unfruchtbarer Weinberg
Hört mir zu! Ich singe euch das Lied meines Freundes von seinem Weinberg:
Auf fruchtbarem Hügel, da liegt mein Stück Land,
dort hackt ich den Boden mit eigener Hand,
ich mühte mich ab und las Felsbrocken auf,
baute Wachtturm und Kelter, setzte Reben darauf.
Und süße Trauben erhofft ich zu Recht,
doch was dann im Herbst wuchs, war sauer und schlecht.
Jerusalems Bürger, ihr Leute von Juda,
was sagt ihr zum Weinberg, was tätet denn ihr da?
Die Trauben sind sauer – entscheidet doch ihr:
War die Pflege zu schlecht? Liegt die Schuld denn bei mir?
Ich sage euch, Leute, das tue ich jetzt:
Weg reiß ich die Hecke, als Schutz einst gesetzt;
zum Weiden solln Schafe und Rinder hinein!
Und die Mauer ringsum – die reiße ich ein!
Zertrampelnden Füßen geb ich ihn preis,
schlecht lohnte mein Weinberg mir Arbeit und Schweiß!
Ich will nicht mehr hacken, das Unkraut soll sprießen!
Der Himmel soll ihm den Regen verschließen!
Der Weinberg des Herrn seid ihr Israeliten! Sein Lieblingsgarten, Juda, seid ihr! Er hoffte auf Rechtsspruch – und erntete Rechtsbruch, statt Liebe und Treue nur Hilfeschreie!

Prayers of Intercession and Lord's Prayer
Wir wollen uns heute daran erinnern lassen, dass du, unser Gott, gerecht und barmherzig bist. Herr, treuer Gott, zeig deine Liebe und Macht in dieser Welt, die von Lieblosigkeit und Machtmissbrauch gekennzeichnet ist. Gedenke, Herr, an deine Barmherzigkeit!
Die Verletzten und Kranken leiden unter Schmerzen.
Sie sehnen sich nach Heilung. Sie haben Angst.
Gib Geduld und Ausdauer denen, die sie pflegen.
Lindere die Schmerzen der Kranken und schenke Heilung.
Verbanne die Angst aus unseren Köpfen und die Panik aus unseren Entscheidungen.
Gedenke, Herr, und zeige deine Barmherzigkeit!
Die Verzweifelten verlieren ihre Hoffnung.
Die Verfolgten zweifeln an deiner Gerechtigkeit und Güte.
Die Gedemütigten und Verachteten fürchten Gewalt.
Gedenke, Herr, und zeige deine Barmherzigkeit!
Verschaffe du ihnen Gerechtigkeit. Schenke du Hoffnung.
Wir sind deine Gemeinde und wir vertrauen dir die Verzweifelten, Verfolgten und Gedemütigten an.
Wir sehnen uns nach Einheit und Frieden – für sie und für uns.
In unserer Sehnsucht schauen wir auf Jesus Christus. Durch ihn rufen wir: Gedenke, Herr, und zeige deine Barmherzigkeit –

God, we trust in you. Remember your love toward us and be merciful to us. We, your children, need your merciful presence to guide and heal us. The world, your beloved creation, needs your merciful presence to be healed and find the right way to go.
We lift up our hearts to you in supplication, using the words our Brother has taught us:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
